QUESTION: Where did the idea for the Weeblefester come from.
ANSWER: When I was a small kid, my dad had a sign in his office that said "Beware The
Weeblefester". When I was older, I asked him what that was. He made up some strange story about a monster that ate greedy
kids. (The real reason that sign was in his office I was never told.) I must have made a dozen stories about the Weebelfester
and his evil buddy, The Glangsterdork which lived in a world of shadows and would steal kids that the Weebelfester didn't
eat. But that's another story.
QUESTION: What kind of a film is The Weeblefester?
ANSWER: The Weeblefester is a comical satire of Bug Eyed Monster films from the 50's to the 70's.
QUESTION: Why a kid eating monster movie?
ANSWER: While taking one of several Child Psychology classes in college, I learned that one
of the most basic of childhood fears, is the fear of being eaten by anything larger that you, like a big dog or a goat at
the petting zoo, or that thing under the bed. The Weeblefester is a composite of the worst things in those fears, a giant
creature with a large mouth that is smart, conversant, has shape shifting and environmental shifting powers, and likes the
taste of kids. How do you hide from that?
QUESTION: How did you convince your cast to be eaten by the Weeblefester.
ANSWER: How did I convince them? For cryin' out loud, who is coming up with these
questions? oh...yeah... I put out a cast call to a big hunk of my newer cast and told them
that they would most likely get eaten by the monster. The general response was
"CO-O-O-OL!"... Kids are weird. Seems everyone who I cast for this wanted to get
gobbled up. That certainly made things easier. FYI Ethan, Danielle and Emalee are the only actors in this film who have
been in anything else. The rest of the cast are all new faces.
QUESTION: Is The Weeblefester another CGI monster?
The only CGI in this film are the backgrounds and a few minor pieces of imaging. The Weebelefester
and all his incarnations are elaborate props and puppetry. In fact, most of the effects in this film are "Practical Effects"
which means they are live effects using props. This project is by far the most elaborate and expensive films (so far) from
our studio. (Though not the longest.)
